English medieval oak ark, the clamp front construction, the slightly arched three board top cleated with cutout decorated hinges integral to the top.
A near identical example is in the Victoria and Albert museum, illustrated in English Medieval Furniture and Woodwork by Charles Tracey page 176, plate 299, described as being of 13th century type, but possibly 14th century or early 15th century.
