Description
A Renaissance brass pricket candlestick of imposing scale, cast with a triangular base set upon three bold ball feet, supporting a square plinth enriched with delicate reef-like foliate decoration. Above rises a truncated baluster stem with moulded knop and petal-fluting, surmounted by a wide drip pan and tall pricket.
The square-faced plinth section with its ornamental reef motif is an unusual and distinguished feature, elevating this candlestick beyond utilitarian examples and indicating a higher-status commission, almost certainly for ecclesiastical use. Such decorative detailing reflects the Renaissance taste for classical ornament, translated here into the vocabulary of liturgical metalwork.
