Description

17th century pine coffermaker’s travelling chest, covered in painted leather and brass studs. The front painted with floral decoration and two demon figures, each side decorated with double headed birds, possibly the arms of the family, and the top painted with hunting scene.

The Coffermaker was primarily a worker in leather, and his name derives from the French cuivier. His principal work was the manufacture of boxes, trunks, travelling chests. Victor Chinnery Oak furniture the British tradition.
