Description
A monumental 17th-century Flemish tapestry, finely woven in wool and silk, depicting a crowned female figure seated with attendants in an interior setting. The central figure, richly robed in blue and wearing a crown, holds a golden vessel, while one companion offers a jug and another presents a bouquet of flowers. The scene may represent an allegorical or moralising theme, possibly one of the Virtues or a personification of abundance, rather than a biblical subject.
The border is richly ornamented with scrolling floral decoration interspersed with cartouches containing allegorical female figures, and with prominent eagles—both single and double-headed—suggesting Imperial or Habsburg associations. The vibrant palette of blues, creams, and ochres is typical of Flemish weaving of this period.
Condition: Recently cleaned, restored, and re-backed. Some age-related wear to the main field consistent with its date, but overall retaining strong decorative presence.
