Description
A tall and elegant survival from the late Tudor/early Stuart period, the stem forged in one with three tapering branches, each terminating in a large pricket with drip tray, above a sturdy tripod base with arched legs and curled feet. Such monumental lighting was intended for use in churches, great halls, or refectories, illuminating large spaces before the widespread adoption of lanterns and wall sconces. The clean, architectural design reflects the restrained English ironwork tradition, contrasting with the more elaborate Continental forms.
