More information

An interesting large and heavy joined oak armchair, the botanical carved back panel, carved in the same style of which Thomas Dennis was producing 50 years later on. The large segmented flower head attached to a trefoil motif emerges at the top of the stem. The same basic arrangement appears on numerous chests produced by Thomas Dennis. The top rail carved with S-scrolls, it is quite possible that this chair could have been made in an Exeter workshop in which Thomas Dennis may have apprenticed a generation after the chair was made. Repair to the seat.
