Description

Charles I joined oak press cupboard, the front decorated with floral inlay of holly and oak within the doors and fixed panels of the upper canted cupboard. A single drawer carved with gadrooned designs, above this the huge cup and cover gadrooned columns with ionic capitals.

A near identical example from the same workshop sold in Bonhams £47, 500 (image shown here)

Even though this work is distinctly ‘Elizabethan” in its character, there is no suggestion that any of it belongs to the sixteenth century. Victor Chinnery
