Description
A fine and rare Charles I joined oak court cupboard of restrained and architectural design, retaining evidence of its original surface staining. The upper section with a narrow frieze drawer framed by applied mouldings, the panels enriched with fruitwood insets, originally highlighted by contrasting black stain. Below, a single mid-level drawer with moulded front similarly accented with staining, set above a broad display shelf supported on turned columnar uprights.
The lower section with a pot-board base framed by moulded stretchers and supported on square stile feet, the turned central post adding both structural strength and visual balance. The whole form is defined by its clarity of line, proportion and subtle enrichment — hallmarks of Dorset joinery in the early 17th century.
