More information

Charles I oak carved bedstead, the head board carved with two arcaded panels with floral designs being flanked by applied figures, above two serpents being flanked by large leafy corbels with the central one with carved crown and the date 1625 and CR beneath. The canopy panelled with applied mouldings and decoration. The post carved with cup and cover balustrades. 1625 was the year of Charles l's accession so the crown, initials CR for Charles or Carolus Rex and date are extremely significant, making this bed a statement of loyalty.
