Description

Charles II joined oak chair, the cresting rail with scalloped type shell with scrolled foliate flanking, beneath this the back rest panel carved with floral imagery and a similar scolloped shell and scroll design below. The front lower stretcher rail unusually carved on a flat board with scrolled decoration with a central four petal flower.

Similar example: Plate 401, page 288. Early British chairs and seats 1500 – 1700, Tobias Jellinek.

Rare and interesting example.
