Description
A fine and decorative mid-18th century Dutch Delft bowl, hand-painted in vibrant polychrome enamels. The exterior is decorated with scalloped cartouches enclosing floral sprays in red, green, and yellow against a white tin-glazed ground, the panels outlined in deep cobalt blue and interspersed with stylised flower motifs. Above and below runs a striking border of radiating orange and blue strokes, giving the bowl a lively rhythm of colour and movement.
The interior is more restrained, painted in underglaze blue with a central stylised plant flanked by scattered star and ring motifs, typical of Dutch Delft taste in the mid-1700s. The bowl rests on a raised foot, its form well-balanced and functional yet decorative.
This type of Delftware bowl would have served both as a table piece and as a display item, reflecting the strong influence of imported Chinese porcelain, yet reinterpreted in the distinctive Dutch manner with European floral designs.
