Description

Durham carved joined oak armchair of rare form and design, the back rest panel with huge single lozenge design with roundels, the cresting rails finely carved with lunettes. Feet tipped and old repairs.

This huge chair is one of only 13 or 14 known to date and thought to all be made in Durham by the same person or workshop. Tobias Jellinek describes them in detail in Early British chairs and seats 1500 – 1700.
