Description

Elizabeth I carved oak and inlaid armchair, Exeter.  The arcaded back panel carved with egg and dart decoration with floral spandrels and leafy supports surrounding the crudely applied botanical inlaid designs.

Above the arcaded panel is a typical Exeter feature, the chain link with ornate S-scrolled cresting flanking the face of a beast. The simple gun barrel turned column supports of the seat and armrests again typical of the Exeter workshops. Deep red surface.
