More information

Elizabeth I oak carved and inlaid press cupboard of fine quality. The lower twin cupboard with carved arcaded panelled doors with plumed feathers within, above a single cupboard with central door inlaid with geometric designs being flanked by deeply moulded and carved panels with intersecting inlaid patterns. Above this a heavily carved gadrooned frieze supporting the shelf board and carved jewelled cup and cover gadrooned supports, with Ionic capitals, framing the upper cupboard section with twin doors with inlaid geometric designs and carved with egg and dart decoration, both doors being flanked by caryatid supports. The upper frieze rail carved with opposing dragons with arrow shaped tongues being flanked by applied masks. This example would have been one of the more expensive items of its time, to help show off the clients wealth. Old restorations.
