Description

Elizabeth I joined oak carved and inlaid livery cupboard. The upper section with canted cupboard the side having applied arcades and the door inlaid with botanical imagery, dated 1593 and initialed I M above. The door being flanked by two crouching figures with figs. Above and below the cupboard are two drawers, both carved with gadrooned and leafy designs. The cup and cover supports carved with gadrooned leafy designs also.

12th June 1593, Sir Richard Hawkins sails from Plymouth to the South American Pacific with the aim of emulating the circumnavigation voyage of his cousin Drake.
