Description

Elizabeth I joined oak armchair. This chair is not for the purist it is more of a document of a great thing. The chair with its carved back rest with a quartrefoil of flowers and roundels and above this a lunette carved frieze rail with domed top with roundels.

A similar chair possibly made by the same family is in Milbourne port Church, South Somerset and dated 1601 and illustrated in Oak Furniture from Gloucestershire and Somerset. Shown in second image here.

Seat and arms replaced.
