Description

Elizabeth I oak carved armchair of rare form, the large back rest panel carved with roundels and star shaped motifs with the frieze rail carved with guilloche. The flat armrests cut out and punch decorated and being supported by square section baluster columns.

The back legs also with square section cut out baluster columns terminating at the top with plumed feathers.

A similar square cut baluster stool is illustrated in Victor Chinnery’s new revised Oak Furniture, figure 3:79c page 222.

A similar square cut baluster chair is illustrated in R. W. Symonds, Furniture making in Seventeenth century England, fig 4 page 1.

Rare collector’s piece.
