Description

Elizabeth I joined oak and carved chest from Exeter, the three panel front with applied arcaded decoration with leafy ornament being flanked by chain and flower motifs, the frieze rail carved with double s-scrolls and lower rails with a single row of the same.

This chest begins the line of objects that represent the direct evolution which led to the furniture making practices of Thomas Dennis. All of the the primary elements of Dennis’s approach to carving design are present on this chest.
