Description

Elizabeth I Welsh carved oak box, with the initials E A carved to the front. The front and side decorated with bullseye roundels, roundels were a common motif in the Welsh repertoire, dating back to the dot and circles found on Iron Age stone monuments and into the 19th century on slate ornaments. Craftsmen used a brace with an attachment to make the designs.
