Description
English carved oak sculpture of St Simon, 15th century. St Simon Zelotes was one of the twelve apostles and known as St Simon the Zealot. The principal latin tradition holds that Simon was sawn into two pieces in Suanir, Persia. Most depictions of his martyrdom show him being sawn in half and for this reason he is often represented as holding a large pit saw.
