15th century walnut chest, with flamboyant Gothic tracery arches. The perfect proportions and the quality of the carving make for an exceptional chest. This chest with is six main flamboyant tracery panels with the fleur-de-lys inserted within the quatrefoils and crocketed heads, flanking a superbly executed carved centre panel of a winged angel holding a shield, the shield has a coat of arms scratched into the surface, a vertical line with a five point star either of the line. Further punch decoration of flowers between the wings and body. Above the original silvered lock plate cut out with the finest tracery and floral decoration. The sides of the chest with the original carrying handles. A similar example is shown in Jacques Thirion, Le Mobilier du moyen age et de la Renaissance en France, page 38.
