Gothic walnut sculpture of the Visitation

The Visitation, carved in walnut and of superb quality with Mary's sweeping long locks of hair dropping over her shoulder. Holding hands with Elizabeth. Mary visits her relative Elizabeth, they are both pregnant. Mary is pregnant with Jesus and Elizabeth is pregnant with John the Baptist.Mary left Nazareth immediately after the Annunciation and went to Hebron, south of Jerusalem, to attend her cousin Elizabeth. In superb condition with a small repair to Mary's foot, both Mary and Elizabeth are carved on separate panels and joined together by a small section of wood to the rear.
