Description

Henry VIII oak carved linenfold chest of hybrid construction, the front framed with four panels of linenfold each with carved crosses. The boarded sides and back with cut out decoration.

In the earlier stages, linenfold panels are often combined with Gothic details in a definitively medieval manner; but after c.1525 a new sense lightness and informality is increasingly evident. Victor Chinnery, Oak furniture the British tradition.
