Description

James I joined oak and carved press cupboard, the lower section an open pot shelf, above twin cupboards with framed doors hinged with large strap hinges, above the upper twin cupboards with same design, with column supporting the nulled carved frieze rail.

A near identical example is illustrated in Victor Chinney’s, Oak Furniture, figure 3;266 page 322.

The process of completely enclosing the cup-board with doors resulted in the mature press cupboard or parlour cupboard: Victor Chinney
