Description

James I oak carved chest, the front with three arcaded panels, the left panel depicting a scrolled tailed serpent with the date 1622 above, the central panel initialed MR above a shield with a rampant lion within and the right hand panel with a single flower, these being flanked by ‘atlantes’ and ‘caryatids’. The frieze rails carved with dragons and serpents being flanked with applied male and female masks.
