Description

This elaborate chest is one of three known with drawers, but is the only chest known to be in two parts, with the complete drawer section being cut from the upper section of the chest and retains much of its original red polychomy. The characteristic Dennis composition which comprises the central element of the carving consists of a seedpod-like flowerhead supported by a central stem from which sprout two broad, incurved asymmetric leaves which meet directly above the flowerhead. The s-scroll carved completely along the top rail and extending on to the uprights.
