Description
A monumental pair of Renaissance brass pricket candlesticks, each standing an impressive 24 inches high. The stems are boldly turned with multiple knops and balusters, rising to broad drip pans and iron prickets. The heavy disc bases are of classic Nuremberg form, providing both stability and grandeur.
Nuremberg was among the foremost centres of brass and bronze working in Renaissance Europe, supplying high-quality candlesticks to churches, guilds, and wealthy patrician households. The impressive scale of this pair suggests a liturgical or semi-public context, perhaps flanking an altar or standing in a chapel. Their survival as a matched pair is rare, as many such examples were melted down over the centuries.
