Description
A finely cast Renaissance brass pricket candlestick of classic Nuremberg form, with a stepped circular base, boldly turned baluster stem with double ring mouldings, and broad drip pan supporting a tall pricket. The restrained yet robust design reflects the sophisticated brassworking traditions of Nuremberg, one of the foremost centres of metalwork in 16th-century Europe.
Candlesticks of this type were used in both ecclesiastical and domestic settings, their solid construction and balanced proportions ensuring stability when supporting tall beeswax candles. The surface shows a rich, warm patina consistent with centuries of use.
