Description
A rare matched pair of late Gothic pricket candlesticks of unusually small proportions, finely cast in copper alloy. Each with a sharp central pricket above a shallow drip pan, raised on a turned conical and baluster stem, and resting on a moulded circular base.
While larger Gothic prickets are more frequently encountered in church and domestic contexts, examples of this diminutive scale are exceptionally rare and were likely intended for private devotional use within the home, or for a small domestic altar. Their form retains the late medieval vocabulary of design—conical turning, crisp drip pans, and upright prickets—while anticipating the baluster traditions of the Northern Renaissance.
