Description

Late medieval English lectern stand with a spiralled, “rope-work” carved shaft supported by a crucifom base. Probably made for use during the reading of scripture and the liturgies in a parish church, England, oak, c. 1480.

Book-rest lost and cruciform supports reduced in length.

Undisturbed dry grey surface consistent with centuries of use in a parish church.
