Description
Henry VIII North Devon wall settle, oak, with eight large linenfold panels draped at the top only with punch decoration within the folds. Above this five plumed finials three carved with different designs with horizontal moulded panels dividing them. Original early bench.
This settle comes by repute from the same house as the screen fragment in the V & A museum London, and illustrated in C Tracey, No. 266 plate 88, which is in Brightleigh, Nr.Chittlehampton, North Devon.
Provenance: Frank Cowan collection. Illustrated in The English Smile page 69 – 74. This settle was bought during the late 80s early 90s from a farm sale in Devon.
