More information

Huge portrait panel in oak depicting Charles V Holy Roman Emperor wearing a parade helmet possibly made and designed by Filippo Negroli. Charles V (24 February 1500 – 21 September 1558) was Holy Roman Emperor (1519–1556), King of Castile and Aragon (1516–1556), and Prince of the Habsburg Netherlands as Duke of Burgundy (1506–1555). He was the head of the House of Austria (1519-1556), as well as the crowned King of Germany (1520-1556) and King of Italy (1530-1556) in his capacity as Emperor, and spent most of his reign defending the integrity of the Holy Roman Empire from the Protestants, the Ottoman Empire, and the Kingdom of France. Pictures here include a helmet made for Charles V by Filippo Negroli circa 1533 and Charles V as a younger man.
