Description

Tudor carved oak desk box, the front and sides heavily carved with floral designs with applied badges with Tudor roses and Pomegranates. The interior with eight carved drawers, and two secret drawers set behind the front plinth.

In the sixteenth century the possession of libraries of books, and therefore the necessity for furniture to house them, was almost exclusively the prerogative of the rich and the learned. Victor Chinnery, Oak furniture the British tradition.
