Description

A finely cast Italian brass pricket candlestick with a stepped triangular plinth raised on three ball feet, supporting a slender baluster stem, wide drip pan, and tall pricket for securing a substantial wax candle. This tripod form offered both elegance and stability and was a favoured design for ecclesiastical settings, including churches and private chapels, during the Baroque period. The combination of refined proportions, original surface, and the rarer triangular base makes this an exceptional survival of 17th-century Italian metalwork.

Tripod pricket candlesticks of this type, with triangular plinths on ball feet, were a distinctive Italian Baroque form, designed for ecclesiastical use. Their stability and elegant profile made them especially suited to church altars and private chapels.
