Description
An early 17th-century ingenuity, this oak chair-table demonstrates the dual-purpose design typical of Yorkshire craftsmanship during the reign of Charles I. The back panel, boldly carved with a large lozenge motif, folds forward on original iron hinges to form a rectangular table surface. The seat rails are deeply channel-moulded and carved, while the robust baluster-turned legs are joined by plain stretchers, ensuring strength and stability. The arm supports are shaped and finished with finely carved scrolled handholds, enhancing both function and decoration.
