Description
A French faience jug of baluster form, decorated in polychrome with stylised floral sprays in manganese, yellow, and green on a white tin-glaze ground. The body rises from a narrow circular foot, enriched with a yellow border, and swells to a broad shoulder beneath a pewter mount and domed hinged lid with thumbpiece. The lively hand-painted decoration, combined with the characteristic palette, is typical of the faience traditions of Nevers and Moustiers during the mid-18th century.
This charming piece reflects the popularity of faience tablewares in France, combining both practical function and decorative appeal. The survival of the original pewter lid enhances its authenticity and rarity.
