Description

Elizabeth I joined oak and carved chest, the front with two large panels with applied arcades carved with guilloche decoration and applied jewel designs with a floral cartouche within, this being flanked by three male Atlantes, above the chain decorated frieze with floral and jewel designs. Each side with twin panels of double S-scrolls.

English carvers built up a vocabulary of decorative motifs which were only loosely based on Italian, French and Flemish originals. Victor Chinnery Oak furniture the British tradition
