Description

Elizabeth I inlaid oak carved chest. The front carved with three applied arcaded panels with ornate S-scrolls each with a green man at the top of the arch and flanked by winged angel spandrels, within the arcade holly and bog oak inlaid interlaced decoration. The frieze rail inlaid with S-scrolls with two outer carved male masks.

The form and content of much of the finest carved decoration seems directly inspired by foreign example; but most of this must have been gleaned from imported specimens. Victor Chinnery Oak Furniture the British Tradition.
