Description

Elizabeth I oak chest of small size, the boarded construction with simple moulded front and a superb original early lockplate, with a late 17th century nail decorated letter ‘A’ beneath. The top hinged on the cleats. The interior decorated with late 18th century or early 19th century adverts and earlier hand written papers on the inside of the body.

It was quite possible chests of this size where used as stools as well as storage.
