Description

Elizabeth I oak carved tester bedstead. The carved arcaded section of headboard with botanical imagery typical of the West Country being flanked by leafy pilasters, above a row of winged mythical beasts and above this the main frieze of heraldic beasts within foliage. The bulbous cup and cover posts carved with leafy and jewelled decoration.

A high status bedstead made for a high status owner and house, impressive then and very impressive now.
