Elizabeth I carved and inlaid oak chest. The twin panel front and single panel sides inlaid with holly and bog oak the botanical imagery with birds. The arcaded sections of carving with huge leafy spandrels. The Stiles and rails carved with guilloche and ornamental strap work both to the front and sides. The two original sledge feet tenoned to the base of the chest with carved pad feet are a rare feature. The lid has two initials RE carved into the top and filled with pitch. Lock plate and hinges original and made from Tin and not wrought iron. This chest on whole is in superb condition with only a small corner of the lid missing, it has everything you would want in a top quality Elizabethan chest. A rare collector's piece.
