Gothic French Oak Window Shutter With Linenfold Door

A rare late medieval French oak window shutter retaining its original outer frame and hinged inner door carved in linenfold. Of square plan, the shutter is constructed with broad chamfered stiles and rails joined by pegged mortise-and-tenon joints, enclosing a four-panel linenfold door arranged around a central horizontal muntin. The linenfold panels are crisply modelled with characteristic gothic fluting and raised central folds, their edges slightly softened by centuries of handling and exposure.
The reverse retains its original wrought-iron strap hinges, secured with hand-forged nails, and an early wooden latch which still engages cleanly. The timber surfaces throughout display the dry, undisturbed patination associated with long-protected interior architectural woodwork. The shutter shows no sign of structural alteration, later re-cutting, or replacement elements.
Condition
Structurally sound. Wear and softening to exposed edges consistent with age. Iron hinges original. No modern restoration.
