Description

James I leather covered iron bound travelling chest / standard. The leather covered domed lid and body of the chest with pierced double S-scrolled designed wrought iron bands. The design of the bands are found in many English carved examples of furniture.

Standard – storage chest. Henry VIII inventories list – chestes or standerdes bounde with iron (Henry VIII inv. 189, item 9166)
