Description
Of circular form with a scalloped rim, the tin-glazed earthenware dish painted in cobalt blue and ochre yellow, the centre with a peacock standing beneath a flowering tree flanked by stylised blooms, the cavetto and border richly decorated with alternating tulips, carnations, and foliage. The decoration reflects both the Near Eastern floral influence seen in Delftware of the period and the European fascination with exotic birds.
