Description

Each of elegant baluster form with a waisted neck and broad flaring rim, raised on a spreading octagonal foot. Finely painted in cobalt blue beneath a clear tin glaze with Chinese-inspired floral ornament, including peony and chrysanthemum sprays, scrolling foliage, and stylised trellis and lappet borders. The necks with vertical panel designs and foliate collars beneath the rim, the decoration throughout displaying the crisp, confident brushwork of Delft’s finest late-17th-century workshops.
Condition: Minor glaze frits and age-related wear to rims, one rim cracked and re-glued; otherwise in fine original condition.

The shape and design derive directly from Chinese Transitional porcelain prototypes, imported to the Netherlands by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) from c.1650, but executed in local tin-glazed earthenware for a prosperous domestic and export market. This particular form appears in Delft inventories associated with the De Porceleyne Fles and De Drie Posteleyne Astonne factories.
