Description

Charles I joined oak and carved Exeter press cupboard, the lower section with two panelled doors with the stiles and rails carved with scrolled carved decoration and lunette designs, the upper section with two panelled doors with the panels carved with single lunettes flanking the central applied arcade carved with botanical imagery, the baluster turned columns supporting the frieze rail carved with typical Exeter area S-scrolled shell decoration.

Interesting note: one single upper side panel is drilled with holes for ventilation, although this is a press cupboard it was clearly used as a livery cupboard in the upper section.

Provenance: Paul Fitzsimmons collection of Exeter furniture.
