Description

Of baluster form with a strap handle, decorated in cobalt blue and iron-red enamels on a white tin glaze with a repeating floral motif of stylised orange blossoms and blue leaves, scattered with small star devices. The design is freely hand-painted in the exuberant, painterly manner associated with the London delft potteries of the Restoration period. The interior and base are tin-glazed white; the underside shows typical kiln scars and unglazed footrim.

This style belongs to a group of late 17th-century English delftwares inspired by Dutch floral ornament, but executed with a looser, more spontaneous brushwork that characterises English production.
